Permits and exemptions
The council will issue permits to people who live on the street. You cannot apply for a permit. When they display their permit, residents of the road and school staff can access the closed road.
Vehicles currently permitted to enter the School Street zone are:
- All Emergency Vehicles
- Blue Badge holders
- Royal Mail delivery operators
- Utilities Engineers for emergency repairs in an official vehicle
- Discretionary Exemption permitted by the school. In this case, the school will provide the permit.
Additional exemptions issued will be kept to a minimum. This is to ensure that the number of vehicles entering the School Street zone during operational hours is kept low.
Vehicles eligble for an exemption include:
- residents living on the School Street
- carers visiting residents’ properties
- business owners and customers
- Emergency Services
- Blue Badge holders
- taxis
- statutory public services such as gas/electricity companies
- refuse collectors
- postal service providers, such as the Royal Mail
- buses and school transport
- breakdown and recovery vehicles
- any vehicle with special arrangements made by the School.
Vehicles parked in the area
Vehicles already parked in the zone during operational hours will be able to exit the zone but will not be permitted re-entry without a permit.
Deliveries
Only official delivery vehicles will be permitted to enter the closure.
Subcontractors using a personal vehicle will not be permitted entry. They will need to park away from the school and walk to resident's property or contact the resident directly to make alternative arrangements.
Parents, carers and children with limited mobility
Parents or carers dropping children at school will not be able to enter the School Street zone.
You can only enter if you or your child is a Blue Badge holder or by special arrangements made with the school.
You will still be able to walk, cycle or scoot to school in a more friendly and safe environment.
