Accessing the definitive map
The definitive map is the legal record of public rights of way and shows the route of each public footpath and public bridleway in Slough.
The definitive statement gives a description of the route and can include path widths and any restrictions.
How to access
The original map and statement can be checked by appointment at Observatory House, 25 Windsor Road, Slough SL1 2EL.
Contact us on HighwaysSearches@slough.gov.uk to book an appointment.
Register of definitive map modification orders
The council must provide a register of definitive map modification orders. There are three types of modifications:
- Deleting the public right of way from the definitive map.
- Adding a public right of way to the definitive map.
- Altering the status of a public right of way already recorded eg; footpath to bridleway.
If you have an enquiry about the Register or if you have been stopped from using a route which you believe you should have access to, please contact us at HighwaysSearches@slough.gov.uk to discuss any potential claim.
Register of highway act declarations - Highways Act 1980 Section 31(6)
A statutory declaration may help a landowner protect themselves against public path claims, which are based solely on user evidence. A statutory declaration involves the landowner depositing a map, statement, and statutory declaration with the highway authority, showing which rights of way they acknowledge on their land.
At this time there are no such declarations in Slough.
