Private Hire - Use of bus lanes on A4 trunk road only
Only permitted vehicles are allowed to use selected A4 bus lanes when their times are in use. Private hire vehicles must be authorised by the Highways authority in order to use the A4 bus lane. To help with this, on application or renewal of your private hire plate you will issued a permit to use the authorised bus lanes by the Licensing autority.
The issued bus lane permit will allow you to use the bus lanes which run on the A4 from Huntercombe Lane (J7 M4) to the eastern side of the Uxbridge Road Roundabout (A412) in the Borough of Slough only. This applies to Slough Borough Council Licenced vehicles only. It also applies to the A4 bus lanes and no others within the Borough or outside the Borough.
The authorisation will only be valid for the duration of your of plate and must be surrendered if your plate or badge is suspended, revoked or you fail to renew.
Additionally, if you get a fine for using the bus lane, you will need to follow the procedures as laid out on the ticket. Unless you are exempted from displaying your plate, the plate must be displayed on the outside rear of your vehicle at all times. The Licensing Authority will work with the Highways authority if your vehicle is correctly authorised.
Hackney Vehicles or PCO Hackney vehicles do not need to apply for a sticker as they are authorised under the Road Traffic Act and displayed on the Bus Lane signs as “Taxi”.
Please note: Your entitlement for your vehicle to use the permitted bus lane is only valid when the bus lane permit is correctly displayed, your vehicle plate is on the outside rear of your vehicle and you hold a Slough drivers licence. Bus lane permits expire at the same time as your plate. This entitlement ceases if your plate or badge is suspended or revoked.
