[Voiceover:] Have you considered childminding? Meet the Khans,

husband and wife childminders.

[Kamal:] So I was working part time in the customer services role. I was dropping my kids off in the morning, picking them up after school. And doing a bit of work. So we, I was thinking, I'm doing so much work but I'm not getting anything, and Shafaq was working at nursery. And so Shafaq said to to me, she said "Look, why don't we both start childcare from home, Childminding? And we can make a living that way.

[Voiceover:] Meet Ope, childminder.

[Ope:] I was a nursery nurse for more than a decade. So I'm just like, it's time for me to move to become my own boss really!

[Voiceover:] What do you enjoy about being a childminder?

[Shafaq:] So I'm really enjoy when I see the shine in their eyes.

[Kamal:] So for me, I love to play with the children, yeah, and spoil them a little bit. And so she brings them in line, and I spoil them a little bit. And I love to play with them, love their activities, engage with them.

[Ope:] So being a childminder is amazing because why? You get to look after this little one and see them grow.

[Kamal:] I got to spend a lot more time with my children and and my wife and my family. So I did get a lot more value because if I was working in a normal job I would be out, and I wouldn't see all this.

[Ope:] And being a childminder, because it's such a small setting, you get to work closely with the child. And you have that secure attachment with them. It's like your second home. It's very home based. So you work around their routine.

[Voiceover:] What learning  and development opportunities are there for you and your business?

[Shafaq:] I do have one group with other childminders. So in that group if we have any concern, anything to need, anything ask, then we just write in the group and then few childminders, we help each other with anything we're stuck.

[Ope:] You can also take your business to the next stage. If you have the space as well, that you can also have an assistant.

[Voiceover:] A flexible way to work.

[Ope:] You can choose the days that you want to work and the hours that you want to work. So some childminder might be doing just term time only. You might decide that you don't want to do full time. So you can do term time only, and specific hours of the days that you want to do.

[Kamal:] The other thing is that you're in charge of your schedule. You can take holidays, plan the holidays, agree with the parents. And so as long as you're organised and you know what you want, then you can work as much or as little as you like.

[Voiceover:] What would be your advice to someone considering childminding?

[Shafaq:] It's a good business, and small business but it's good. Nice income. So we are childminding from last 12 years as a husband and wife. It's good. So we are own boss and we're happy.

[Ope:] If childminding is something that you always like to do, don't give up, just get into it. So we have a fantastic team in Slough Borough. So don't be afraid, just get into it. If it's something that you love working with your kids. I'll say go for it.
