Moveable structures and caravans in the Borough of Slough
Article 3 of the Town and Country Planning General Developments Order 1950 gave planning permission for the stationing of moveable structures and caravans on land, providing the activity took place for not more than 28 days in any one calendar year.
On 5th March 1952 the Minister of Housing and Local Government approved a Direction under Article 4 of that Order. The direction rescinded the Planning Permission granted by Article 3 in its application to the Borough of Slough. Thus it is now necessary to obtain special planning permission from the Council for such a change of use.
Please note the following:
- that the parking of a touring caravan within a residential cartilage does not normally require planning permission so long as it is not used as a residence or (for example) is stored for sale
- Any queries on this subject should be directed to the Planning Division, Slough Borough Council, Observatory House, 25 Windsor Road, Slough, Berkshire, SL1 2EL. This is also where forms of application for planning permission may be obtained.
Usually planning permission is necessary for any development of land.
The exception in the Town & Country Planning General Development Order which lists classes of development, which may be carried out as if they had permission i.e. permitted development rights, such as:
- porch under a certain area
- satellite antennae under a certain size
- painting the exterior of a building
- erection of agricultural buildings such as barns for use in agriculture
- stationing of moveable structures and caravans, providing this activity took place for not more than 28 days in any one calendar year.
An Article 4 direction was made on 5th March 1952 which rescinded the planning permissions as to caravans given by Article 3, so it is now necessary to obtain special planning permission for this use.
Normally the parking of a touring caravan within a residential curtilage does not require planning permission so long as it is not used as a residence or (for example) is stored for sale.
Please direct any queries to planning department.
