Slough Borough Council is calling on people to be patient and stick to the guidelines, as care homes begin to allow single visitors for their residents.

From today, (8 March), care homes across Slough and across the country are putting in place measures so their residents can receive single visitors – in the same room, with no screens in place.

However the council is urging people to make sure they stick to the guidelines and help care homes continue to protect their residents.

Councillor Natasa Pantelic, lead member for health and wellbeing, said: “Our care homes have
been at the forefront of looking after and protecting our most vulnerable residents throughout this
pandemic and we thank all our care staff for doing such a great job.

“Our care providers in Slough have done an excellent job in very difficult circumstances and since all care home residents are like family members to staff, I know each person will have felt it personally when someone has been affected.

“People must be so excited to be in the same room again as their loved one over the coming days and weeks but I urge everyone to be cautious, to follow the guidelines of the care homes themselves and help them continue to protect care home residents."

Only single named visitors are allowed to visit care homes with each care home resident being asked to nominate one person to be their named visitor.

The named visitor will be the only one allowed to visit and will be required to:
•    make an appointment
•    take a rapid covid test every time their visit – with each visit only allowed to go ahead if the test is negative
•    wear PPE including a mask, gloves and aprons
•    maintain social distancing.

Tests and PPE will be provided by the care homes.

Councillor Pantelic added: “Remember, as much as you want to visit your loved one, other families want to do the same, so appointments may need to be shared out.

“In the same way, when you visit, bear in mind you are not only visiting the home of your loved one, but others’ homes as well – so make sure you are considerate of everyone and don’t put anyone at risk of getting covid.”
