Bike Month Challenge

Workplaces are invited to sign up to the Bike Month Challenge, to encourage their staff to cycle to work and score points on a leader board.

The Love to Ride Bike Month Challenge in May is aimed at encouraging more active travel and at setting goals and achieving them.

The target for each person signed up is 5 miles throughout May, but many will exceed this, so it’s about setting your own individual goals and targets.

The council has signed up and is encouraging our staff to cycle more in May and to log rides, earn points, potentially win prizes and generally be more active.

Councillor Paul Kelly, lead member for housing, highways, planning and transport, said: “The challenge provides a simple, effective and fun way for businesses to meet their health, wellness and sustainability goals. In addition, employees will enjoy some friendly competition while creating stronger bonds with their co-workers.

“While this challenge is primarily for workplaces, individuals can also join in and set their own targets to beat. We encourage cycling as a fun activity for exercise or commuting and to build it as a regular habit.

“If you need some encouragement, we have the Slough Freewheelers Club in Slough which meets monthly for a cycle together in the area. If you want to join like-minded people and maybe find some new routes to cycle, join their next session on 17 May and enjoy!”

The council has partnered with Love to Ride for several challenges now, all with the aim to get people more active, more often, and to see the benefits in health terms, financial terms such as saving money on commuting and in environmental benefits, such as reduced emissions.

The Love to Ride app means you can log rides automatically without needing to press 'start' and 'stop' as it will determine if you are riding a bike and will log it.
