Following an Ofsted inspection in March, we are pleased to announce that Foster with Slough (Slough Children First’s fostering agency) has achieved ‘good’.
The inspection came after the fostering agency was last inspected in 2021.
Inspectors highlighted that foster carers know the children well and work with the service to provide good care and support. They identified that there is a strong commitment to the continued growth and development of the children too, personally, and academically stating “Foster carers know the children well and work with the service to provide good care and support. They show a strong commitment to the continued growth and development of the children and want what is best for them” with inspectors also highlighting that leadership and managers know the progress that children make too.
Ofsted emphasised that diversity and equality are valued throughout the fostering agency and the homes of the children too, with the cultural needs of the children that are supported, valued and celebrated.
They also acknowledged the positive working relationships that staff across Foster with Slough have, with each other and other partner agencies, acknowledging that ‘they work well for the interests of and to ensure the best possible outcomes for children.’
Similarly, the amount of trust between the staff and foster carers were evident, which in return brought great reward and growth. “They are able to take measured risks because they have the support of confident foster carers. For example, one child is now able to walk home from school with a friend when this had previously not been possible. The foster carers have helped to build her confidence.”
Saima Arif, Head of Regulated Services and Responsible Individual at Slough Children First said: “We would like to thank all staff for their hard work, and the support towards each other, not just for this inspection, but every day. Our staff do amazing work, across the service, with partners and with our young people, so it is great that it has been reflected through the inspection.”
Foster with Slough were also praised for their dedication to ensuring children and young people are involved in participation and have memorable experiences. They found children have life experiences similar to other children of the same age, they are encouraged in developing their own hobbies and interests, have opportunities to express their views, wishes and feelings and contribute to the development of the service.
“We are delighted that we have met the requirements to achieve a good rating, and it is great that Ofsted can see that we are extremely committed to delivering services for and providing care to our children and young people, where they feel valued and represented.” Sue Butcher, Executive Director of Children’s Services and Chief Executive of Slough Children First said.
“Whether it’s information in a guide, a religious or cultural celebration or event, asking about their traditions or meeting communication needs when their first language is not English, we want to celebrate each child and ensure they are heard and that they are reaching their full potential.”
Foster with Slough have worked tirelessly to build on a previous ‘good’ since 2021, with leadership constantly working together to improve the lives of children and young people and best possible outcomes for them remaining at the heart of what we do.
There are several recommendations that Ofsted have shared, which we will be taking into consideration and will implement.
Councillor Puja Bedi, Lead Member for Education and Children’s Services said: “This is fantastic news that Foster with Slough has achieved a good in their latest Ofsted inspection, we are so proud of our staff and foster carers whose hard work and dedication makes such a difference to our looked after children and young people. The focus is on improving their lives in every way, which is reflected throughout the report, thank you to everyone involved in making this such a successful service.”
Ofsted have now published the report, available to read on their website.
