Planners ask residents and landowners for views on future sites in Slough

A ‘call for sites’ consultation has been launched by Slough Borough Council’s planning team, as they prepare a new local plan for Slough.

Anyone with an interest in Slough is asked to share details on any land they own, or know of, that could contribute to meeting needs in the borough over the next 15-20 years.

With a growing population, there is a huge demand for homes, employment, and a range of community uses, but a shortage of land on which to build or provide these.

The consultation process is open from today (Friday) until 23 May.

Councillor Paul Kelly, lead member for housing, highways, planning and transport, said: “Insight from residents with local knowledge can help the team see what they value. It will flag up any potential sites where better use could be made of the land.

“Whether it’s where we could put new housing, particularly for more family homes, or employment, what shops or leisure facilities we should offer, or how we use our parks – we want to know what people think.

“It will help guide development to the most suitable and sustainable locations alongside protecting the environment and plan for supporting infrastructure such as open space, transport, education and health.

“We want to build a Slough that meets the needs of all our communities, and we’re interested in hearing people’s suggestions on sites they know of that could help us do this.”

The council has already begun work on plans to regenerate the centre of the town and understanding where the rising demand for housing and other uses we need can be accommodated will help Slough support the Government’s priority to build 1.5million homes and deliver economic growth.

The information gathered from the ‘call for sites’ will help the planning team produce the council’s new Local Plan 2025-2045, which will be used to assess planning applications and drive regeneration in Slough.

The plan will set out policies that guide development, including to provide the houses we need, support employment, protect our parks and natural places, and make walking, cycling and travelling by bus and train easier, while complying with the Government’s rules for Planning.

To tell the team about any sites you know of fill in the ‘call for sites’ site nomination form. You will need to provide a plan showing where it is, and include what you know about its current use, and what you think it could be used for.

The closing date for suggestions is Friday 23 May at 11.59pm.

Sites that have been selected will be included in a broader consultation on the Local Plan in 2026, so everyone will have the opportunity to comment.
