Cycling for fun and fitness

Ride anywhere week

A new challenge from Love to Ride encourages everyone to go for a cycle ride during ‘Ride Anywhere Week’.

Running from 15 to 23 March, the aim is to build confidence and get into the habit of cycling, either for leisure, social and fitness purposes, or for active travel, such as commuting.

Individuals, families and businesses can all take on the challenge, which is free to join and take part. You can either use the website at lovetoride.net or download the app to log your rides, earn points and be in with the chance to win prizes.

Councillor Paul Kelly, lead member for housing, highways, planning and transport, said: “We’ve supported Cycle September and Winter Wheelers and now it’s time for Ride Anywhere Week. Cyclists of all abilities are encouraged to shake off the winter blues and give cycling a try.

“It’s good for your health, with improved fitness, reduced stress and better wellbeing just some of the benefits, it can save you money on commuting costs, it makes travel more sustainable and it’s a social activity. There is also lots of advice and tips on the Love to Ride website, particularly for those nervous to start.”

In Slough, there is the Slough Freewheelers cycling group, who meet monthly for a cycle together on Saturday mornings. Find out more about the group and their sessions.

Cycle rides of all duration and purposes all count towards the challenge.

Those who sign up before 15 March will be entered into an Early Bird prize draw to win £1,000 cash.

To get involved visit lovetoride.net, quickly create a profile, start riding and encourage your friends and family to join in the fun, whether they are beginners or more experienced.
