Guilty noisy neighbours to lose equipment

TV seized

Two residents who continually played music so loud that it disturbed their neighbours must pay large fines and have their equipment seized.

Atanaska Stancheva and Dinko Dinev, of Stoke Road, Slough, were found guilty in their absence of two offences under Section 80 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990.

The pair had previously been served with a noise abatement notice in July, but council officers witnessed them breaching this on 13 September. They then seized their speakers on 27 September.

The notice was breached again and witnessed by council officers on 20 October, and this again resulted in a seizure of noisemaking equipment, this time a TV and speaker systems, on 1 November.

The case was heard on Friday 24 January at East Berkshire (Slough) Magistrates’ Court.

The defendants were ordered to pay a fine of £821, costs of £4,318 each and a victim surcharge of £985 each. This must be paid within 28 days.

A deprivation order for the music equipment previously seized by the council was also issued.

Councillor Ishrat Shah, lead member for equalities, public health and public protection, said: “Residents have the right to live in a peaceful environment in their own homes. Disturbing your neighbours repeatedly in this way is not acceptable and I’m glad the court saw that. I hope the people responsible will pay their fines and learn from this prosecution to be more respectful of their neighbours.”
