Slough Borough Council and Thames Valley Police will be working in partnership to focus on issues of anti-social behaviour (ASB) during ASB awareness week, which runs from 18-24 November.
The national week of action, with the theme ‘Making Communities Safer’, aims to encourage communities to take a stand against ASB and highlight the actions people can take if they are experiencing it.
Officers from Slough Borough Council and Thames Valley Police will be engaging with residents to listen to community concerns and offer ASB and crime prevention advice.
Have Your Say meetings with the police will be held during the week, including on Saturday 23 November, from 11am-12.30pm, at Langley Library. Officers will be offering advice, discussing local issues and answering any questions. All residents are welcome.
The plan for the week runs on daily themes:
• Monday - Partnership Day
• Tuesday - Victims Day
• Wednesday - "Let's Talk ASB" Day
• Thursday - Community Heroes Day
• Friday - Young People's Day
• Saturday - ASB and Health Day
• Sunday - Community Action Day.
Activities will include partnership work in Slough High Street around rough sleeping and signposting to support. There will also be visits to repeat victims of cuckooing and vulnerable residents who may be susceptible / become victims of cuckooing in Langley. Cuckooing is where professional criminals target the homes of vulnerable people and use them for drug-dealing.
There will also be housing tenancy audits, checks for ASB traffic offences, school talks, an environmental visual audit, a litter picking community event and visits to parks to highlight no bird feeding or littering.
Councillor Ishrat Shah, lead member for equalities, public health and public protection, said: “Each year we support anti-social awareness week because we know this is an issue which affects people’s daily lives. Knowing how to report ASB is important and awareness weeks like this will build confidence that complaints are being heard and work is ongoing to tackle ASB in our communities.
“Everyone is welcome to support the community events, such as the litter pick.”
On Sunday 24 November, the community action day will involve a litter pick with Slough Anti-Litter Society and community volunteers in Langley Memorial Park from 10am-12noon. Meet outside Langley Pavilion.
Teams from the council involved in ASB awareness week include community safety, resilience and enforcement, parks, environmental services, housing, and the rough sleeping team.
You can report incidents of ASB to the council using the online reporting form.
You can report incidents of crime or ASB to Thames Valley Police on the non-emergency number 101 or online.
