Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG)
The Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) is a grant that can help pay some or all of the costs needed to adapt your home to help you live independently.
How much will I get
A financial means test will be carried out to determine the amount of grant you will be awarded. This will check your average weekly income in relation to your outgoings. It takes into account any savings you may have above a certain limit, but not benefits such as Disability Living Allowance or Income Support.
There is no means testing for families of disabled children under 19.
If you do receive a DFG it will not affect any other benefits you currently receive. Find out more about grant amounts on the GOV.UK Disabled facilities Grant web pages.
Am I eligible for DFG
You can apply for a DFG from the council if you or someone living in your property is registered as disabled under Government legislation and:
- is either the owner, or tenant of the property (landlords may apply on behalf of disabled tenants)
- you can certify that you, or the person on whose behalf you are applying, intend to occupy the property as your main residence throughout the grant period, which is currently five years.
