Resident involvement

Resident involvement opportunities

We have a range of involvement opportunities that offer flexibility so residents can be involved to the level and detail they choose.

Resident Board

The Board has up to 12 tenants and leaseholders with an independent Chair . The Board works closely with the lead councillor for housing to make sure we deliver the housing service that meets the expectations of all residents and regulatory standards.

Neighbourhood involvement

  • Residents and staff doing joint estate inspections.
  • Support and be involved with tenant and resident led groups.
  • Set up safety champions or complaint advocate initiatives to ensure safe neighbourhoods and effective handling of complaints.
  • Door knocking and hold local resident meetings to engage older residents, those with mobility issue or those that prefer this approach.

Scrutiny projects

This work will be with a group of residents for a set time to examine one aspect of our service. This should find what works well and what we can do better. We will aim to recruit residents who reflect the diversity of Slough.

Leaseholders' forum

This is an opportunity for leaseholders paying service charges to Slough Borough Council to:

•    meet staff
•    discuss any concerns and areas for improvement and
•    give their recommendations.

Annual residents’ event

This is a weekend event where residents can meet and engage with teams from the council such as: housing, our repairs contractor, community safety and community development. Residents will have access to information about housing services as well as support services and have a say about upcoming plans and projects.

Virtual involvement

Residents can get involved wherever they are and at their convenience on topics that matter to them. Examples of this includes:

  • online survey
  • mystery shopping and
  • online focus groups.

Benefits of getting involved

  • You will receive training and support needed to fully participate in the engagement activities you have applied for.
  • Your involvement will directly influence and improve our services for everyone.
  • Depending on the level of your involvement, we could provide you with a reference if you’re looking for work.
  • You’ll meet new people: other residents, neighbours and teams from the council
  • Getting involved can also be rewarding, enjoyable and worthwhile experience
