Flexible working and wellbeing
Flexible working
We support a range of flexible working arrangements to promote a work-life balance for our staff. These are dependant on the operational needs of each service.
The council's smart working policy enables staff to work from a range of locations and deliver services closer to customers and communities, in line with service needs. When you join the council, smart working arrangements will be discussed with your manager.
Slough Borough Council is committed to being a carer-friendly employer. The council is a member of the Employers for Carers network with Carers UK to help us to support our staff who are carers.
Wellbeing
The council’s employee wellbeing board aims to improve the working environment and promote good health and wellbeing for all staff.
A range of initiatives are offered, including cycle rides, annual pedometer challenge, football and netball tournaments, Pilates, mindfulness, healthy eating events, diabetes and drinking awareness, and mental wellbeing is promoted.
The council has a free 24-hour employee assistance programme available to all staff which can provide telephone counselling on matters such as relationships, coping with change, legal advice, budgeting and consumer issues.
In addition, as part of the council’s commitment to health, Slough Borough Council is a smoke free workplace.
The aim of the employee wellbeing board is to ensure our staff are healthy and feel supported at work.
The council also has an employee engagement forum, an employees with disabilities forum, Race Equality and Celebrating Heritage network(REACH), and Women’s network.
