Home contents insurance
Home Contents insurance is designed to help protect your possessions. No matter how careful you are, there’s always a risk that your belongings could be broken, damaged by fire, flood or animals, or stolen. Home contents insurance can help provide peace of mind.
If you are a tenant who rents, then as your landlord we do not cover your contents, such as white goods, beds, carpets, settees, tables, or chairs as part of the tenancy agreement. As your landlord, we will not replace or compensate you for any of your contents should they be damaged.
Consider what items in your home you have and what a home contents insurance policy would cover for you. You can then make an informed decision on whether you need a contents insurance policy. It is in your interest to take out contents insurance.
How to find contents insurance
You can find and compare different options using home insurance comparison websites. They are easy to use and can help you save time and money. Be aware that there are two types of home insurance:
- contents
- buildings (sometimes just called "home insurance").
As a renter or tenant you don't need buildings insurance. Your landlord will be responsible for that.
We have in the past worked closely with Thistle Tenant Risks, who provide the Crystal Insurance Scheme. The Crystal Insurance Scheme is a specialist Tenants' Contents Insurance policy.
There are several other insurance companies to choose from so make sure you check the sites before making your decision.
