Winter fuel payments
Winter fuel payments are for people born on or before 5 January 1952. You could get between £100 and £300 tax-free to help pay your heating bills. This is a Winter Fuel Payment.
You will get your Winter Fuel Payment automatically (you do not need to claim) if you’re eligible and either:
- get the State Pension
- get another social security benefit (not Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reduction, Child Benefit or Universal Credit).
You only need to make a claim if:
- you do not get benefits or a State Pension
- you only get Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reduction, Child Benefit or Universal Credit
- you get benefits or a State Pension but live in Switzerland or an EEA country.
