Slough Borough Council has developed a brand new timetable of activity, sports, arts, and workshops launching on 3 June called Active Minds. Active Minds aims to help residents improve and manage their mental health.
The programme is running from the beginning of June until the end of August, and there is something for everyone, from workshops to yoga to virtual reality. The focus has been on bringing together different organisations to give residents access to activities that are tailored to help your mental health. All of the activities and events are open to anyone aged 18 plus in Slough, and all are free or low cost.
The activities are led by peer navigators, people who have lived experience of mental health problems. Local organisations have also become involved in the programme such as Sport in Mind, Run Talk Run, and Friends in Need.
Councillor Natasa Pantelic, cabinet member for health and wellbeing said: “This is an innovative programme that looks to improve the mental health of our residents, and bring people together, whilst promoting being active.
“It’s so important to look after our mental health as well as our physical health, and inclusive programmes like this in Slough encourage us, our Active Minds programme is open to all residents aged 18 plus, and all activities are free or low cost, to encourage anyone to take part.”
