Demand that Slough joins the Voter ID scheme immediately

We the undersigned petition the council to Action the previously accepted plans to enrol on the Government pilot scheme to demand that all voters produce ID to vote in polling stations

This is just a small step towards restoring democracy and the public's faith in election integrity.

As highlighted in the government-commissioned report by Sir Eric Pickles, Slough is an area at high risk of electoral fraud.

Voter ID pilots have been announced as a success by the government. Slough should now honour its previous decision to join this scheme and councillors should vote to have voter ID introduced for the next election - local or parliamentary.

Council response

I am writing to respond to your e petition which was signed by 62 people and called on the Council to take part in Voter ID Pilots for the next elections held in Slough.

The Council has been advised that there are no more Government voter ID pilots being run following those run by Returning Officers as part of the 2018 and 2019 elections and the Council would therefore unable to volunteer to be a pilot authority. You may be aware that the Council did take part in a postal voter information pilot as part of the 2018 Local Elections - the Pilot contained measures to strengthen the integrity of the postal vote system, help tackle fraud, and improve voter confidence.
