Volunteering at Slough Libraries and The Curve

We have some great opportunities for you to get involved and help out at Slough Libraries and The Curve!

Arts Volunteer including Front of House at The Curve

  • Provide a welcoming atmosphere to all visitors.
  • Provide front of house support for arts and performance activities and events including selling programmes.
  • Welcoming visitors to the activity or event and directing them to location.
  • Ushering people attending events and performances.
  • Ensure the clean and tidy presentation of the front of house areas, especially inside the multipurpose space.
  • Helping Curve staff get ready for an arts / performance activity or event and helping clear away afterwards.
  • Helping prepare press and marketing material to promote arts/ performance activity or event.
  • Looking after artists or performers or VIPs attending activities or performances.
  • Monitoring backstage areas including Green Room.
  • Provide accurate information about the Curve and its arts and performance activities and events, promoting its productions and the other areas of its work, such as Arts Development.
  • Talking to customers about the arts and performance activities and events, gathering feedback.

Please note: Volunteers need to be 18+ for evening volunteering. Daytime duties may be undertaken by volunteers 16+

Activities and events volunteer

  • Promoting the activity or event to adults, children and families, for example by designing and / or delivering leaflets, posters, displays
  • Assisting with the activity or event session in the Curve.
  • Helping Curve staff get ready for the activity or event and helping clear away afterwards.
  • Welcoming visitors to the activity or event and directing them to the event location.
  • Talking to customers about the activity or event, gathering feedback and promoting future activities or events.
  • Support adult learning staff at enrolment, assessment, job clubs and other promotional activities.

Children’s activities and events volunteer

  • Promoting the activity or event to children, parents/ carers and families.
  • Assisting with the activity or event session in the Curve.
  • Helping Curve staff get ready for the activity or event and helping clear away afterwards.
  • Welcoming children to the activity or event.
  • Talking to children and their parents/ carers about the activity or event, gathering feedback and promoting future activities or events.
  • Reading stories and rhymes in a structured session.

General Volunteer at Britwell, Cippenham and Langley

  •  Assist staff in delivering events and activities for customers.
  •  Help staff support customers using the computing and self-service facilities in the library.
  • Actively promoting the services, adult learning activities and stock within Slough Libraries.
  • Assisting staff with the shelving and organising of stock.
  • Ensuring that visitors are directed to the most appropriate area/ person to answer their query

Home Library Service Volunteer

  • Select and deliver books, audio books and information to the people unable to visit the library in person
  • Working typically half a day each month, you might visit people living alone, or individual residents in care homes

ICT Buddy

  • To assist Curve staff in supporting users with ICT skills; helping customers send emails, search the Internet, help access social network sites and promote library websites.
  • To provide advice, support and coaching in ICT skills according to the specific needs of the Curve users.
  • Assisting customers book a computer to use.
  • Assisting customers printing and paying for prints.
  • Assisting customers joining the library online.
  • Assisting customers ordering (reserving) a book or other item online.
  • Supporting learners in IT classes and at job clubs

Local History Volunteer

  • To support family and local history enquiries in the Curve
  • To assist in local and family history projects as directed
  • Provide information and advice on local Slough collections and online resources
  • Carry out research and related tasks as required
  • Promote the use of the Curve through local history talks, tours and events

Meet and Greet Volunteer

  • Being a visible and friendly initial point of contact for users and visitors coming into the building.
  • Talking to members of the public and guiding them around the building.
  • Actively promoting the services, adult learning activities and stock within the Curve.
  • Undertaking tours of the Curve with visitors.
  • Ensuring that visitors are directed to the most appropriate area/ person to answer their query.
