The Local Plan for Slough

The Local Development Plan for Slough sets out the long term overall vision for how the area should develop, and a strategy for how this should take place. The plan must comply with the legal requirements set by national government, and also meet the needs of local residents and businesses.

This policy sets the framework for making decisions on individual planning applications. All planning applications – whether for a small extension to a building, or for a large development of multiple houses – must be approved or rejected in line with the policies in the development plan, unless any other strong planning reasons emerge.
The Local Development Plan for Slough is comprised of:

  • The Core Strategy Development Plan Document
  • Site Allocations Development Plan Document
  • Local Plan Saved Policies
  • The Minerals and Waste Local Plan Policies
  • Proposals Map

The council is currently working on a new Local Plan. More information on the emerging Local Plan for Slough can be found here.

Core Strategy

The Core Strategy Development Plan Document contains the spatial vision, objectives and strategic policy for the Borough. It includes policies to guide development in housing, retail, leisure, employment and community facilities, as well as protection of the natural and historic environment.

The Core Strategy was adopted by Full Council on 16th December 2008.

Site Allocations

The Site Allocations Development Plan Document supports the Core Strategy. The main purpose of the Site Allocations document is to identify proposed sites for the implementation of the Core Strategy. The Site Allocation document outlines areas within Slough for development, regeneration, or conservation.

The Site Allocation document was adopted by Full Council on the 30th November 2010.

Local Plan Saved Policies

The Local Plan Saved Policies are planning policy documents that give detailed guidance on a wide range of issues, including design, transport, housing, retail sites, building extensions, local nature conservation and green space.

The policies here were adopted in 2004. As the planning process changes over time, some are no longer in use. Those that remain in use are referred to as ‘saved’.

The policies currently in use can be downloaded here:

The Mineral and Waste Local Plan Policies

The Mineral and Waste Local Plan Policies outline specific planning issues surrounding the processing and disposal of minerals and waste.

You can read more about the Mineral and Waste Local Plan Policies here.
